Why add margins before importing

Lecture slides leave nowhere to write.

A 16:9 deck fills the screen edge to edge. Adding a column on the right gives you a full page of space per slide without shrinking the slide itself.

Not every app can add space for you.

Notability offers it on import on some devices, GoodNotes doesn't. Doing it in the PDF means the space is there in every app, on every device, forever.

Your notes stay next to the thing they explain.

Slide 14's derivation sits beside slide 14 — not in a separate notebook you have to line up again at revision time.

Links and text survive.

The default mode grows the page box instead of redrawing the page, so text stays selectable and searchable and any links still work.
